Types of Sensors and Their Functions
There are three types of Zigbee sensors released by Ikea, named Parasoll, Vallhorn, and Badring. Zigbee is defined as a low-power wireless mesh network.
1. Parasoll
Parasoll is a window and door sensor designed to trigger automation when a door or window is opened or closed. It can also directly connect to the Ikea light bulb without any other Ikea smart hub.
2. Vallhorn
Vallhorn is a motion detector sensor that detects indoor and outdoor motion to activate lights. It comes with IP44 splash protection from rain and consists of three AAA batteries. It can easily control three Ikea smart bulbs right out of the box.
3. Badring
Badring is a water sensor with a built-in siren that sounds an alarm during a water leak. It can also send notifications to your phone using the Ikea Smart Home app. This sensor is very useful as it can save water and prevent property damage, potentially saving owners a lot of money.
Additional Information
These sensors are surprisingly affordable, costing around $10 each, though pricing may vary by region. In Europe, the sensors will cost €9.99, €7.99, and €9.99, respectively. In the United States, the price is yet to be confirmed. The availability of these sensors varies: Vallhorn will be available in selected countries, Parasoll will launch globally, and Badring will be available for retail in some countries in April but won’t reach the US until July.
